 FAMILY LIFE IN BRITAIN

I have just read an article in my English book. I thought you maybe be interested because it talks about Familiy life in Great britain.
Basically it says about that the once typical British family headed by two is not the rule anymore. There is a rise in the number of single-parent households. By the year 2020 in Great britain, there will be more single people than married people.
It´s also mentioned that todays people's view on marriage are changing. About in their twenties or thirhies they live together without getting married. Only about 60% get married later.





Family Size
About 40% children are born to unmarried parents. People are generally getting married at a later age now. They don't want to have a baby until they later thirties because of their jobs.

On average 2.4 people live as a family in one home in Britain. This is smaller thant the most countries of the European countries.

Guy Fawkes Day and Halloween

Hello,
I want to tell you a bit about Guy Fawkes Day and Halloween. Because we were talking about these two Festivals last lesson.

Guy Fawkes Day:
Who was it? 
He was a terrorist, who was a officer of the Kingdom of England. 
Where? 
He lived in Britain.
When? 
He was born 1570 and died 1606.
What?
He tried to blow up the english parliament and he wanted to kill the King Jakob I.

The Guy Fawkes Day is on the fifth of November. The people in England celebrate it. They make a bonfire and burn a man made of old dresses.

Halloween:
Halloween is on the 31st of October. Younger children are playing games like 'Apple Pucking' and in the USA it's common to play 'Trick or Treat'. The children dress up like witches and ghosts and they are ringing at the doors of people and they are asking for treats. If the people don't give treats or sweets, the children play tricks on them.
