Christmas Traditions

We've been talking about Christmas traditions in different countries from all over the world. And I want to tell you something about the Christmas tradition in Norway.

The Chrismas eve is the time when presents are exchanged. The gifts are sometimes brought by Santa Claus called 'Julenissen'. Presents are also brought by little gnomes called 'Nisse'.
There are also 'Nisse' decorations for christmas in Norway.
Another tradition in parts of Norway is that families light a candle every night from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day.
Christmas came to Norway first time in year 1000, 1100 when the christianity came. The people didn't celebrated Christmas till this time. Before that the '
jòl' was celebrated in the middle of winter. It was a celebration of the harvest gone and a way of looking forward to the spring.

The most famous custom about Christmas in Norway is the big Christmas Tree that Norway gives to the UK every year. The tree is a present to say 'thank you' for the help during the World War II. The Tree stands in Trafalgar Square in the middle of London and often hundreds of people come to see it when the lights are turned on.

Shopping Centre

A few english lessons ago we talked about shopping and online shopping etc.
So I want to give you informations about my last shopping experience.

I was at Pluscity in Leonding, it's a really big shopping centre and it's really recommendable for shopaholics. The Pluscity in Leonding is very modern and there are many shops and the building has 2 floors.

I stayed 4 hours there because I bought me new jeans, t-shirts, sunglasses and a necklace.

The jeans did I buy from H & M and from New Yorker, the t-shirts from H & M and from Bershka and the necklace from Peek & Cloppenburg. At the shopping centre I saw a gold watch which was very beautiful and glamorous, but I didn't buy it because it was too expensive.

Austrian Food/ Austrian table manners

Dear Günther,

thank you for your E-Mail, let me give you some Information about Food and table manners in Austria / our Family / etc.

The most typical Food for Austrians and for the most of the Tourists is the famous "Wiener Schnitzel". Typically it's made from chicken breast or pork. The meat or the chicken are dunked in little breadcrumbs and then the chefs fry it in a frying pan or in a deep fryer in sunflower oil or any plant oils. When it's finished it is served on a plate with french fries and often with a piece of a lemon. You can squeeze the lemon on the "Wiener Schnitzel", so it's more delicious. Many People eat the famous "Wiener Schnitzel" like that.

In Austria it's common that you hold the fork on the left hand and the knife on the right hand. You cut a piece of the famous austrian food and eat the piece before you cut another Piece of it.

Do's
-put your napkin on your lap as soon as you are seated
-eat as much of your food with a fork as you can. By not using your knife, you are complimenting the chef because it lets them know that the food they cooked is very tender.
-you should hold the fork in the left hand an the knife in the right hand.
-put your fork and knife side-by-side on your plate with the handles facing to the right when you are done eating. This indicates that you're full.
-

Dont's
- Don't cut dumplings with your knife. Instead, use your knife to hold the dumpling and cut it up with your fork.
- Don't put up a fight over who pays the bill at a restaurant. Whoever invited everyone out is who pays the bill. If you are invited out to dinner during your visits to Austria, reciprocate and invite whoever you invited to a nice meal.
- Don't begin eating until the host says "Mahlzeit" or "Guten Appetit".
